Assisted Nonfiction with Jill Magid and Julia Weist

At Triple Canopy, Jill Magid and Julia Weist will conduct a conversation about art as investigation, infiltration, and manipulation, as well as the value of definition versus ambiguity.

Magid and Weist will discuss the impact of terminology in suppressing aspects of art that may not be expressed (or expressible) in the standard outputs and venues. Drawing on “assisted nonfiction,” a term coined by the art historian Gilda Williams to describe Magid’s practice, they will reflect on the classification of their investigations, which have been presented as novels, documentaries, dossiers, sculptures, installations, and billboards. They’ll also propose language to account for a range of artists’ efforts to infiltrate and interact with complex, powerful systems.

Please RSVP HERE for the discussion, which takes place from 7-9 at Triple Canopy in New York. Doors open at 6:30.
